Terms of service

Terms.

Last updated: [ date ]

These are the terms on which Mantlework ("we", "us") provides services. They're written in plain English on purpose. If anything here is unclear, ask before we start.

01How an engagement starts

Work begins when we've both confirmed the engagement by email: we send you a confirmation setting out the service, the price and these terms, and you reply confirming you're happy to proceed. That email exchange is the agreement. Wherever this site says something is "in writing", that email confirmation is what we mean.

Nothing is owed and nothing starts until that confirmation exists. A form submission or a discovery call is an enquiry, not a commitment.

02Our four promises

Every engagement includes these commitments, and they form part of the agreement:

03The website package

Price: six monthly payments of £500 (£3,000 total), or £2,500 paid upfront. On the monthly route there's nothing to pay before work begins; the first payment is due when the build starts, then monthly.

Ownership: the domain is registered in your name from day one. On the sixth payment (or on the upfront payment), the website is yours outright: files, content and images included.

If payments stop early: the six payments are a fixed term. If you stop before payment six, we pause the engagement and hold the site. We don't delete anything and we don't add fees. Resume the remaining payments whenever you're ready and ownership transfers as normal.

Care plan: after the build is paid for, an optional care plan is available at £150 a month, covering hosting, updates, backups, monitoring and small changes. It's monthly and you can cancel it at any time. If you cancel, we hand over everything needed to host the site elsewhere.

04The thirty days

The 30-day delivery clock starts when all three of these exist: your engagement confirmation email, your first payment (or upfront payment), and the materials we ask for at kick-off (typically photos, business details and answers to a short set of questions).

Time spent waiting on your review or approval pauses the clock. We'll always tell you exactly what we're waiting on.

05The search service

Price: £750 a month, with a three-month minimum. After the third month it runs monthly and you can cancel at any time with notice before your next billing date.

Included each month: Google Business Profile optimisation; keyword tracking (20–50 keywords); technical SEO monitoring; two blog posts; on-page optimisation; internal linking; a monthly plain-English report; and minor website edits up to one hour.

No ranking guarantees: we guarantee the work, not a position. Google decides rankings, and nobody honest promises otherwise. Everything we build on your site stays with your site if you leave.

06Payment

Payments are due monthly in advance by the method set out in your confirmation email. If a payment fails or isn't made, we may pause work and, for website builds, hold the site as described in section 3 until payments resume.

07What we need from you

Timely materials, honest information about the business, and reviews or approvals within a reasonable time. You confirm that anything you give us to publish (photos, logos, text) is yours to use and doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.

08Content and approval

We write the words and you approve every page before it goes live. Nothing is published without your sign-off. After launch, you're responsible for letting us know if anything about the business changes.

09Liability

We do careful work, but our total liability under any engagement is capped at the amount you've paid us under that engagement. We're not liable for indirect losses such as lost profits or lost business. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that can't legally be excluded.

10Ending an engagement

Monthly services can be cancelled as described above. Either of us can end an engagement immediately if the other seriously breaches these terms and doesn't fix it within 14 days of being asked. On any ending, you keep what you've paid for and we hand over what's yours.

11The boring bits

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If we update them, the version in your confirmation email is the one that applies to your engagement. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
